     This Certificate of Notification (the "Certificate") is filed by Energy East Corporation ("Energy East"), a New York corporation and registered holding company under the Public Utility Holding Company Act of 1935, as amended (the "Act"). The transactions proposed in the Form U-1 Application, as amended (the "Application") of Energy East in File No. 70-9609 were authorized by Order of the Securities and Exchange Commission (the "Commission") dated January 28, 2003 (the "Order"). Energy East hereby certifies the matters set forth below pursuant to Rule 24 of the rules under the Act for the period October 1, 2004, through December 31, 2004.

Under the Investors Services Program, 218,091 shares of Energy East common stock were issued. Under employee benefit plans, 17,643 shares of Energy East common stock were purchased in the open market; under the Restricted Stock Plan no shares of Energy East common stock were issued out of treasury stock; under the 2000 Stock Option Plan 720,000 options/SARs with respect to Energy East common stock were granted during the quarter, of those 239,000 vested during that time period.

In December 2004 NYSEG hedged an anticipated September 2005 financing need by executing a forward starting swap with a notational amount of $100 million and a 10-year tenor. The forward fixed rate is locked-in at 4.789%. The counter party is JP Morgan Chase.

Energy East issued short-term debt in the form of a bank credit facility and commercial paper during the quarter in amounts ranging from $1.1 million to $20.1 million, at interest rates ranging from 1.85% per annum to 2.36% per annum, and with a maximum amount outstanding of $20.1 million.

The amount and terms of any short-term debt issued by any Utility Subsidiary during the quarter:

New York State Electric & Gas Corporation issued commercial paper during the quarter in amounts ranging from $0.7 million to $25.0 million, at interest rates ranging from 1.85% per annum to 2.50% per annum, and with a maximum amount outstanding of $75.0 million.

Central Maine Power Company issued short-term debt in the form of a bank credit facility during the quarter in amounts ranging from $0.3 million to $12.5 million, at interest rates ranging from 2.16% per annum to 3.31% per annum, and with a maximum amount outstanding of $42.0 million.

Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation issued short-term debt in the form of bank credit facilities during the quarter in amounts ranging from $9.0 million to $36.0 million, at interest rates ranging from 2.47% per annum to 3.00% per annum, and with a maximum amount outstanding of $59.0 million.

The Southern Connecticut Gas Company issued short-term debt in the form of a bank credit facility during the quarter in amounts ranging from $7.0 million to $26.0 million, at interest rates ranging from 2.47% per annum to 3.00% per annum, and with a maximum amount outstanding of $48.0 million.

The Berkshire Gas Company issued short-term debt in the form of a bank credit facility during the quarter in amounts ranging from $1.0 million to $3.0 million, at interest rates ranging from 2.89% per annum to 3.37% per annum, and with a maximum amount outstanding of $4.0 million.
