On April 12, 2007, Cytokinetics, Incorporated issued a press release announcing the initiation of a Phase II clinical trials program evaluating CK-1827452, a novel cardiac myosin activator, in the potential treatment of patients with either acutely decompensated or chronic heart failure. The first patient has been dosed in the first Phase IIa clinical trial of the program, which is designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic profile of an intravenous formulation of CK-1827452 in patients with stable heart failure. Additionally, the press release announced that Cytokinetics recently initiated a Phase I clinical trial with CK-1827452 in the United Kingdom designed to evaluate the effects of ketoconazole, a CYP3A4 inhibitor, on the pharmacokinetics of CK-1827452 in sixteen healthy male volunteers. CK-1827452 is the subject of a Collaboration and Option Agreement executed in December 2006 by Cytokinetics and Amgen Inc.
