Limited (the Company) notes certain articles which
appeared in todays newspapers about the discussions between
the Company and China Network Communications Group Corporation
(China Netcom).
The Company wishes to confirm that the discussions with China Netcom are continuing but no definitive agreement or letter of intent has yet been signed by the parties and there can be no assurance that any such agreement or letter of intent will be signed. | ||

The Company notes certain articles which appeared in todays newspapers about the discussions between the Company and China Netcom. Other than as appears in the press articles with regard to the statement made by the Company, the Company did not authorize statements to be made to the press on this matter and to the best of its knowledge and belief is not aware of any statement made by any representative of the Company to the press which could have formed the original basis of the substance of the press articles. Further to the Companys announcements dated May 18, 2004, June 10, 2004, July 12, 2004 and August 23, 2004, the Company wishes to confirm that the discussions with China Netcom are continuing but no definitive agreement or letter of intent has yet been signed by the parties and there can be no assurance that any such agreement or letter of intent will be signed. Further announcement(s) with regard to these discussions will be made as and when appropriate. The Company also confirms that, save as referred to above, there are no negotiations or agreements relating to intended acquisitions or realisations which are discloseable under Rule 13.23 of the Listing Rules. Also, neither the Company nor the Board is aware of any other matter discloseable under the general obligation imposed by Rule 13.09 of the Listing Rules, which is or may be of a price-sensitive nature.
