North Pole, Alaska - Dec. 15, 2025 - This winter season, Rod’s Alaskan Guide Service launched a new round-trip transportation option for guests booking select tours, addressing a long-standing challenge for travelers who struggle to reach tours outside central Fairbanks.
Winter travel to Interior Alaska continues to grow. Fairbanks International Airport recorded 550,951 total passenger arrivals and departures during the 2023–2024 winter season. This is a six percent increase from the prior year. The rise is driven by demand for aurora viewing, dog sledding, snowmobiling, and other Alaska winter activities. As visitor numbers increase, transportation to North Pole tour locations has become a recurring obstacle for guests staying in Fairbanks hotels.
Most visitors rely on taxis, rideshares, or rental cars to reach tour locations, but each option presents challenges. Taxis and rideshares in North Pole are limited, can be costly, and often cannot guarantee timely pickup or dropoff. Renting a car can be expensive and requires travelers to drive in unfamiliar winter conditions. The overall logistics, cost, and winter travel concerns make it hard for many guests to find a reliable way to reach tours on their own.
To help close this gap, Rod’s Alaskan Guide Service introduced a $50 per-person round-trip transportation service for their snowmobiling, dog sledding, and ice fishing tours. The service includes pickup from hotels in Fairbanks and North Pole, with an additional meeting point at Walmart for guests staying in vacation rentals. Transportation is provided in a four-wheel-drive van equipped for winter road conditions. Guests can add this new transportation service during online booking and receive fixed pickup times matched to their tour schedule.
"We hear from travelers every day who want to book a winter adventure but simply do not have a way to get here," said Rod Pangborn, owner of Rod’s Alaskan Guide Service. "Taxis and rideshares can cost more than the tour and many visitors prefer not to navigate unfamiliar winter roads. This service is a direct response to what people have been asking for. It removes one of the biggest obstacles standing between visitors and their Alaska experience."
By offering a direct transportation option, the company aims to improve access to Interior Alaska’s winter activities and reduce the stress and uncertainty that many visitors encounter while traveling between Fairbanks and North Pole.
