KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA / ACCESSWIRE / April 23, 2024 / Saudia, the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, in a collaboration with some creative powerhouses across KSA, and Dubai, has introduced the world's first sanitizing prayer beads, uniquely designed for the Umrah and Hajj seasons. This initiative underscores the airline's dedication to upholding exemplary health and safety measures while ensuring that spiritual practices are respectfully preserved.

ProtecTasbih is the first prayer beads that offers a dual function, seamlessly combining the spiritual practice of tasbih with the added benefit of hand sanitization. This innovative creation redefines the traditional prayer beads, reflecting a harmonious blend of cultural reverence and modern health consciousness.

During the development of ProtecTasbih, Aetha Product Design played a crucial role in bringing the concept to life. They were instrumental in designing the mold and developing the unique formula of the beads. They faced several challenges such as not being able use any alcohol owing to religious reasons and so further research led them to look at how it could work with tea tree oil.

The prayer beads use tea tree oil as the main sanitizing element, as it is highly effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria and disrupts the cell membrane of the bacteria itself. Using a special moulding technique, the oil was integrated into a semi-solid compound to create a solid bead.

Shamsher Walia, Co-founder for D&F Labs says, "Tea tree oil's effectiveness allowed ProtecTasbih to redefine the traditional prayer beads, setting a new standard for spiritual reverence and modern health consciousness. This invention not only enhances personal hygiene practices but also demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness through its zero-waste design. We are incredibly proud to have developed such a groundbreaking product, born out of a deep-rooted passion for merging tradition with innovation to serve our community better."

Aetha Product Design and Saudia looked at the different environments that the beads would then come under, such as being handed out on its airplanes, which is an air-conditioned environment and then taken out onto a pilgrimage, which is outdoors in a very warm climate. Rigorous tests ensured the beads could withstand all climates and be used in a wide variety of temperatures.

Additionally, once the beads' compound shell is completely used up after the duration that it is designed to last for, there is a core shell underneath that allows the product to continue to be used as prayer beads, leading to zero waste.

The new innovative product will be available on board to all Saudia guests to ensure a healthier and more sanitary pilgrimage experience.
