Marquis Who's Who Honors Abby Sheneman, PsyD, LCSW, for Expertise in Psychotherapy

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / January 22, 2026 / Marquis Who's Who honors Abby Sheneman, PsyD, LCSW, for expertise in psychotherapy. Dr. Sheneman's career spans psychology, social work and higher education. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at Southern New Hampshire University, where she teaches forensic psychology to graduate students. Alongside her academic work, she owns and operates a private practice specializing in grief, trauma and sex therapy. Throughout her diverse career, the common thread has always been a desire to help, support and guide others.

Career Disruption and a New Direction

Dr. Sheneman's professional path began outside traditional mental health settings. "Originally, I started my career as a hairdresser many moons ago," she says. After an accident limited her ability to continue that work, she returned to school. In 2010, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice from Temple University.

Early in her career, Dr. Sheneman worked at the Bucks County Courthouse from 2005 to 2016 in Domestic Relations, where she served as a child support enforcement officer. The experience deepened her understanding of family systems and the legal pressures that often surround them.

"I had always been interested in helping others," Dr. Sheneman says. While working in Domestic Relations, however, she found the role unsatisfying. In this capacity, she wasn't supporting people's growth in the way she felt called to do. This realization led her to pursue social work and clinical training.

Clinical Experience Across Diverse Settings

In 2013, Dr. Sheneman earned a Master of Social Work from Temple University and began working in mobile therapy and community-based care. Her early clinical work included providing behavioral assessments and treatment plans for children with behavioral reactivity. Additionally, she supported individuals and families coping with a cancer diagnosis through Gilda's Club, which is now affiliated with Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

Dr. Sheneman also held positions in geriatric wellness communities. As a psychotherapist, she worked with Psychology Associates of Bethlehem PC between 2016 and 2019. These roles expanded her clinical scope across age groups and treatment settings. "I took my criminologically minded curiosity and blended it with my empathetic foundation through psychology," she says.

Academic Research and Professional Credentials

In 2025, Dr. Sheneman earned a Doctor of Psychology in grief counseling from American International Theism University in California. Her doctoral research examined how individuals experienced connection and disconnection in relationships during the COVID-19 pandemic. She acknowledges that the degree is her most significant professional achievement.

Dr. Sheneman holds multiple professional credentials. These include licensed clinical social worker status, certified clinical trauma professional designation and accreditation as a sex therapy-informed professional. Moreover, she is a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists. "I truly enjoy the transformative therapeutic work I have crafted into my artistry, which encompasses grief, trauma and sex therapy," she says.

A Distinct Therapeutic Identity

In addition to her clinical and academic work, Dr. Sheneman served as a clinical therapist on the Channel 4 documentary series "Virgin Island," which airs in the U.K. Meanwhile, she remains active in her local community through direct service and philanthropic contributions.

"I'm definitely not a cookie-cutter, run-of-the-mill type of therapist," Dr. Sheneman says, "I will push to create paths to authenticity, I will help challenge for emotional clarity." As she continues teaching and clinical practice, she has expressed interest in furthering her training in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. This emerging treatment includes ketamine, psilocybin and MDMA modalities based on more than 50 years of developmental research.
