Building Transparency Announces New Team Members and Promotion

Nonprofit Continues Global Growth and Innovation Strategy, Expands and Invests in Staff

Building Transparency, a nonprofit organization that provides open access data and tools to foster a better building future, today announces its latest round of new hires and promotions, signaling continued growth for the organization. Francesco Pomponi, Program Director for Europe, and Katie Poss, Procurement and Policy Program Manager, joined the nonprofit, supporting its mission to drive material transparency and make low-carbon procurement decisions easier across the AEC industry. Vaclav Hasik was promoted to Program Director for North America, where he will continue to spearhead the development of Building Transparency’s tools and training programs.

Francesco Pomponi joins the Building Transparency team as Program Director for Europe. Being the nonprofit’s first Europe-based employee, Pomponi will play a fundamental role in driving growth and awareness globally of the organization’s tools and the importance of embodied carbon awareness and reductions. He joined the organization from Edinburgh Napier University, where he was a Professor of Sustainability Science and head of the Resource Efficient Built Environment Lab (REBEL). As an author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications, he will bring a wealth of academic knowledge to Building Transparency, specifically related to data quality and uncertainty.

Katie Poss joins the Building Transparency team as its first Procurement and Policy Program Manager. She will focus on elevating the embodied carbon conversation and ensuring that project stakeholders understand their role in decarbonizing the built environment sector. Poss was first introduced to the organization during her time at Turner Construction, a pilot partner of the organization’s EC3 tool. While at Turner, Poss was the Sustainability Program Manager for the Technology Division, where she managed LEED certification, embodied carbon accounting and reduction, and construction phase emissions tracking.

Promoted from his previous role as Program Manager, Vaclav Hasik will now assume the title of Program Director for North America at Building Transparency. In this role, he will lead methodology, data quality and LCA research supporting the nonprofit’s suite of open-access tools, including tallyLCA and the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3). He will also spearhead demos, webinars and trainings of tools to help educate the AEC industry on the importance of reducing embodied carbon emissions.

As Building Transparency continues into 2023, it is uniquely focused on driving its own growth and presence in the marketplace, exploring new integrations, adding additional material categories, and filling EPD gaps in global markets.

“We are thrilled to be expanding our team to include more green building experts keenly aware of and focused on driving embodied carbon education globally,” says Stacy Smedley, Executive Director of Building Transparency. “With the addition and promotion of these exceptional team members, we’re prepared to make it easier than ever for the building and construction industries to understand and measure their embodied carbon footprint. I’m excited to see what this year holds for our organization as we continue to grow and gain additional support.”
