Winston & Strawn Adds New York Tax Partner James Saeli

Winston & Strawn LLP announced today that James (“Jamie”) Saeli has joined the firm’s Transactions Department as a partner in the New York office and a member of the Tax Practice.

Jamie focuses his practice on the tax aspects of real estate finance specializing in mortgage-backed securitization, particularly real estate investment conduits (“REMICs”) and other tax-advantaged real estate investment vehicles. He provides federal income tax guidance to clients across the real estate finance industry, advising issuers and underwriters in both commercial and residential mortgage securitization offerings with complex tax structures. Jamie also provides tax advice to clients in other aspects of real estate financing, from loan origination to warehousing, as well as other lending arrangements and financing transactions. In addition to tax aspects of real estate finance, Jamie also provides tax advice on financing of master servicing rights, servicer advance facilities, and home equity improvement investment facilities. Additionally, Jamie has experience advising clients on credit card, auto loan, student loan, and other types of non-real estate commercial lending securitization and financing transactions.

“I am thrilled to join Winston’s experienced and talented team in New York. The firm’s tax capabilities are well-known and are well-respected, and I look forward to helping serve and expand the firm’s client base across the tax and securitization industries,” said Jamie.

“The depth of tax experience Jamie brings to our expanding structured finance practice will make him a great addition to our teams and the growth of our New York office,” said Mats Carlston, New York Office Managing Partner.

Jamie also served on active duty in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge in 2006. He continues to be an active participant in the veteran community and has represented pro bono veteran clients before the Veterans Administration.

“Jamie’s knowledge and insights of the current mortgage market will add significant value to both our Tax Practice and Transactions Department more broadly,” said Timothy Kincaid and Brad Vaiana, Transactions Department co-chairs. “We look forward to welcoming Jamie to the firm as we continue to add premier legal talent to our Transactions Department.”
