WINNIPEG, MB: Cold Turkey Vape Shop, a Winnipeg vape shop and vape supply store has announced changes to its products and website in response to the new provincial excise tax.
As of January 1st, 2025, the Government of Manitoba moved to a new coordinated excise tax on vapes and vaping products in collaboration with the Government of Canada. To sell vaping products in Manitoba, suppliers must pay an excise tax; half of this tax goes to the Government of Canada, while the other half goes to the Government of Manitoba.
To transition from the federal-only excise tax to the new coordinated federal and provincial excise tax, businesses were given a three-month grace period in order to sell products that had been marked with the federal excise tax stamp. This grace period ended on April 1st; now, all vape products sold by Cold Turkey Vape Shop in Manitoba feature a provincial excise tax.
This has two effects on Cold Turkey Vape Shop customers in Manitoba. The first is that the price of its products will increase; this increase is to cover the new provincial vape tax, which effectively doubles the amount of excise tax being paid on vaping products. The second is that customers using Cold Turkey Vape Shop’s website in Manitoba will only be able to view products on which the provincial excise tax has been paid. Website users from Manitoba will be redirected to the Manitoba excise tax-paid product pages using GeoIP fencing.

A representative for Cold Turkey Vape Shop commented on how the company is committed to providing the best user experience for all clients: “We want to make it easy for our customers to shop online and find the products they’re looking for, without having to worry about finding which products are available in their region,” said the representative. “The use of GeoIP fencing to automatically display the right products to our customers allows for an effortless user experience. There is no change to the functionality of our site; Manitobans can continue to browse disposables, e-liquid, and vaping accessories with the confidence that the excise tax has been paid on all of the products they see.”
Cold Turkey Vape Shop started as a one-shop operation in Winnipeg, dedicated to helping grow the fledgling vape market as an alternative to cigarettes. Today, it has seven locations throughout Winnipeg as well as an online store.
