Perth, Australia - 14 July, 2025 - In an industry where workspace constraints increasingly challenge utility contractors, Minitap has emerged as a game-changing innovation. The world's most compact hot tapping machine delivers unprecedented efficiency for large off-take connections in crowded underground utility environments.
Developed by utility services contractors to address real-world field challenges, Minitap's patented technology provides a portable, robust, and safe hot tapping solution specifically designed for confined space operations.
"Traditional hot tapping machines require extensive workspace around connection points, which is increasingly difficult to achieve in today's crowded underground utility corridors," explains Minitap's development team. "Our machine operates effectively within just a 1m² area, revolutionising how contractors approach confined space connections."
This breakthrough design addresses three critical industry needs:
- Compact: Minitap delivers 400mm of cutter travel in a 600mm machine length, enabling closer valve placement and simpler connections in tight spaces.
- Robust: Fully enclosed and portable, Minitap performs reliably in all weather conditions, utilising standard hydraulic power (20L/min) and requiring minimal maintenance.
- Safe: Features include enclosed components, cam-based locking, safety pin verification, and adjustable hydraulic settings for optimal operator protection.
The machine's versatility is equally impressive, successfully performing hot taps on diverse pipe materials including cast iron, ductile iron, steel, reinforced concrete, asbestos, PVC, and MDPE/HDPE. Operating at pressures below 1,000 kPa (145 PSI), Minitap is ideal for water, gas, and other utility service applications.

Since its Australian market launch following extensive testing in 2014, Minitap has successfully completed thousands of hot tap connections across diverse field conditions. Its design has gained international recognition with registrations in the United Kingdom and Europe.
For utility contractors facing increasingly complex underground environments, Minitap represents a significant advancement in hot tapping technology. By eliminating the need for large excavations and costly additional connections, it delivers predictable operational results in the most challenging workspaces.
