Hubei Province is rich in cultural and tourism resources, home to four UNESCO World Heritage sites and sixteen national 5A-level tourist attractions. To further integrate resources and propel the cultural tourism industry toward the trillion-yuan scale, the 2025 Hubei Culture and Tourism Development Conference officially unveiled two major thematic axes—“Shenwu Gorge” and “Chi-Huang-Hong”—aimed at shaping a new all-region tourism landscape that combines points, lines, and areas.

“Chi-Huang-Hong”: The Color Code of Jingchu Culture

This route covers southeastern Hubei, linking together Three Kingdoms heritage, metropolitan culture, and revolutionary traditions. Its very name is a profound distillation of Hubei’s cultural DNA.

Chi (Crimson): Flames of War and the Aroma of Tea

“Chi” recalls the fiery memories of the Red Cliffs battlefield, the site of the famous Battle of Chibi—one of ancient China’s seven classic victories of the few over the many, and the only one with its original landscape preserved. It also evokes the tea fragrance of Yangloudong in Chibi, birthplace of the famed Qingzhuan brick tea and a key origin point of the Ancient Tea Road, once known as “Little Hankou” for its prosperity.

Huang (Yellow): A Poetic Landmark

“Huang” refers to Wuhan’s Yellow Crane Tower, celebrated as the “Number One Tower under Heaven.” Immortalized in poems by Cui Hao, Li Bai, and countless literati, it stands as a spiritual emblem of Yangtze River culture.

Hong (Red): A Monument of Blood and Spirit

“Hong” embodies the enduring spirit of Hong’an, a cradle of China’s revolution. Known as the “First County of Generals,” it produced two Chinese presidents and over 200 generals, and it continues to symbolize the unity and resolve of the revolutionary tradition.

“Shenwu Gorge”: A World-Class Corridor of Nature and Culture

The Shenwu Gorge International Eco-Cultural Tourism Route links western Hubei, weaving together seven world-class natural and cultural landmarks and twelve national 5A-level attractions into a premium itinerary that integrates both cultural and natural heritage. Key highlights include:

Wudang Mountains: A UNESCO World Heritage site, Taoist sacred ground, and birthplace of Wudang martial arts, honored as the “Number One Celestial Mountain.”

Shennongjia: A pristine forest ecosystem hailed as a “green miracle.”

Yangtze Three Gorges & Enshi Grand Canyon: Together forming a magnificent living gallery of mountains and waters.

Long-Term Vision: Creating “A Dream Destination for All”

Hubei has rolled out the Action Plan for Cultural Innovation Strategy to Enhance the Overall Influence of a Strategic Cultural Hub, with the goal of establishing itself as a world-renowned cultural tourism destination.

“520100” Scenic Brand System: Highlighting 5 world-famous attractions such as Yellow Crane Tower and Wudang Mountains, building 20 additional 5A-level sites, and developing 100 boutique destinations.

Three-Stage Targets: By 2027, tourism revenue to exceed 1.3 trillion yuan; by 2030, reach 2 trillion yuan; and by 2035, fully realize the vision of becoming a globally recognized cultural tourism destination.

Resonance Between Video and Reality

As vividly captured in the promotional film “Hubei Is Top-Class”, which showcases immersive experiences through the eyes of foreign visitors, Hubei’s “premium” cultural and tourism offerings are attracting global attention with unprecedented appeal. Whether tracing the “Chi-Huang-Hong” color code through history or following the “Shenwu Gorge” route into nature, Hubei stands ready to deliver extraordinary experiences that surpass imagination for travelers worldwide.
