Machiko Ikeoka, Japanese owner of the Sapphire Valley tea plantation in Sri Lanka and long-time advocate of sustainable agriculture, introduced the project to top chefs and hospitality leaders. Her initiative combines quality creation with social impact, supporting more than 7,000 families involved in the Sri Lanka tea plantation ecosystem while advancing microbiome agriculture across the region.

At a time when the beverage sector faces rising raw material costs, JANAT Tea has developed proprietary microbiome cultivation methods enabling higher yields without chemical inputs. Grown in the highland rainforest of Sapphire Valley tea gardens in Sri Lanka, the tea preserves soil biodiversity and enhances flavour complexity. The tea was evaluated under professional tasting protocols by the Tea Tasting Committee working alongside the Sri Lanka Tea Board, reinforcing authenticity, provenance, and institutional credibility.
