RIVSAL Holdings Inc, a Houston-based renewable energy startup developing water-powered electrical generation technology, has been accepted into the Houston location of Greentown Labs, the world's largest climatetech and energy startup incubator. The company will establish operations at Greentown's facility in Houston's Ion District, where it will advance development of its E1 Powerplant technology designed to address critical challenges in solving energy access, price volatility and grid reliability.
The renewable energy company, which has been part of Rice University's Rice Nexus innovation program since November 2025, will relocate its prototype to Greentown's specialized workshop space. The E1 Powerplant prototype will be available for demonstrations beginning the week of February 2, 2026, allowing potential customers and partners to witness the technology in operation.

"We are thrilled to welcome Rivsal to our Houston community of innovators working to transform the energy landscape," said Lawson Gow, Greentown's Head of Houston. "It's water-powered generation technology represents exactly the kind of breakthrough thinking needed to address the dual challenges of energy reliability and sustainability. Having this team join our ecosystem strengthens Houston's position as a global leader in energy innovation."
RIVSAL's technology offers industrial and commercial businesses an alternative to traditional grid dependency through on-site power generation that operates continuously using water as fuel. The company's approach eliminates the need for batteries or hydrogen storage while providing predictable energy costs and zero-emission operations. Large-scale industrial manufacturers and global energy providers are currently evaluating the technology for enterprise commercial utilization.
"Having RIVSAL as part of Rice Nexus has been tremendously exciting, and their acceptance into Greentown Labs marks a significant milestone," said Sanjoy Paul, Executive Director of Rice Nexus. "This collaboration between two of Houston's premier innovation platforms will accelerate the development of sustainable energy solutions that can transform how industries approach power generation. RIVSAL exemplifies the caliber of innovation emerging from Rice University's entrepreneurial ecosystem."
Ivan Hernandez, CEO of RIVSAL Holdings Inc and Rice University MBA alumnus, expressed enthusiasm about the dual support from both innovation hubs. "Being part of Rice Nexus and now Greentown Labs provides RIVSAL with dedicated workshop space and access to resources critical for improving our E1 Powerplant. The mentorship and feedback from industry leaders are powering our optimism for success. We are actively seeking customers interested in testing this technology in their facilities to demonstrate viability and utilization across various industry verticals."
With RIVSAL now at the heart of Houston's innovation district, the company gains access to Greentown's extensive network of corporate partners, investors, and technical experts. The incubator provides prototyping labs, specialized equipment, and connections to approximately 100 other startups working on sustainable energy and industrial process solutions.
RIVSAL Holdings Inc, founded in 2025, specializes in renewable energy power generation using proprietary water-fuel technology. The company's electrical generators are designed to provide green, continuous, on-site power generation that is both economical and scalable without relying on traditional battery storage or hydrogen systems.
