Metrix BioMed Pledges Free Colorectal Cancer Screenings

Medical diagnostic company pledges free colorectal cancer screening to kick off Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.


Metrix BioMed Inc., a Texas based distributor of in vitro diagnostics to physician office laboratories, has pledged free colorectal cancer screenings with it's novel FIT (Fecal Immunochemical Test) product to patients of its physician partners who can not pay for the test. "Colorectal cancer continues to be the number two killer in terms of cancer in both men and women in the United States," said Charlie Balentine, VP Sales and Marketing at Metrix BioMed " and with March being Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, we felt it the appropriate time to give back to the communities who've given so much to us."

Metrix BioMed serves physician office laboratories in all capacities, and one item their sales team educates physicians on is a cancer test that detects occult (hidden) blood in stool. The American College of Gastroenterology recommends an annual occult blood test after the age of 50, with some exceptions. "Unfortunately, this simple, routine screen which can save lives isn't performed nearly enough," said Dr. Roy Sinep, a practicing physician in rural Kentucky. And these tests can become expensive and burdensome to the patient, who may ultimately refuse the test based on cost should their insurance provider not pay for the screening."
