10 Year Anniversary Revisits EquiChord's Contribution to the Dancing Horse Challenge

PRLog - Jun 10, 2013 - The 2013 PVDA Ride for Life (R4L) is celebrating its tenth anniversary and, along with the festivities, EquiChord’s participation is being acknowledged for their help in developing and promoting the Dancing Horse Challenge (DHC). Under the leadership of its co-founder, Barbara Strawson (and the support of her team), EquiChord brought a new vision to the Dancing Horse Challenge and its marketing of the charity event, along with the production of tribute performances and competitive freestyles. Riding to EquiChord’s arrangements, The Ladies of Wyndham Oaks Quadrille won the 2007 competition with the fun and rousing music inspired by the Broadway show Jersey Boys. In 2009, Rebecca Langwost-Barlow and Jaralyn Finn won with a spectacular Pas de Deux to the sounds of the Rolling Stones.

However, the moments that were most indelible for Frank and CeCe Maddlone (co-founders of EquiChord) occurred during the production of the promotional videos. “We wanted to bring the event into the realm of social media. Our concept was to develop a cost-effective, online video campaign that would reach a wider audience. At the time, we had the unique privilege and opportunity to interview, not only several cancer survivors and John Hopkins staff members, but also the riders.” said Frank Maddlone. “It amazed us how each one had a unique story that changed their lives, and how important it was for them to be able to share this with the community-at-large. Equally important was how each one - survivor and friend alike - emphasized how their horse was an integral part of their healing process.”  Out of those experiences, EquiChord designed a YouTube (IRide4L) and Twitter site for the Dancing Horse Challenge, and produced several videos that have since been shared around the world.  EquiChord also began the Million Hits Campaign - a program that exhorted viewers to donate one dollar for every hit on the site. They supported this with the “I Ride 4 Life” promotion, as well as reaching out to sister organizations who were delighted to pass the videos on. As a 28+ year member of ASCAP, Frank met with their marketing director (whose mother was a breast cancer survivor) to discuss the possibility of bringing the R4L to the attention of Tier 1 artists/performers. In the 2008 DHC Tribute, Barbara Strawson performed with her horse, Degas, to a haunting arrangement that included Remember, sung by Josh Groban. Frank’s former L.A. music partner, Marco Marinangeli (who frequently works with Josh), helped to facilitate a meeting to talk about the event. Even though Josh was on the leg of a grueling overseas tour, he made time to send EquiChord a signed photo to add to the silent auction.

Although Frank and CeCe will be members of the audience this year, their contribution continues through performances by Rebecca Langwost-Barlow on Chesapeake, Julio Mendoza on Ivan, and Barbara Strawson on Amicelli - who will reprise a new version of the Remember arrangement.  Each of their performances will be a unique and special blend of artistry and remembrance. EquiChord is also in negotiations for the production of a documentary about the horse and its journey of healing and companionship with humanity.

Frank & CeCe Maddlone are the owners of EquiChord, a professional production company. Whether developing a freestyle design or producing a film, their work is accessible, creative, and seamless.   EquiChord’s musical freestyle designs (arrangements, choreography and original compositions that touch all genres) combine state-of-the-art technologies with a high degree of artistry and seasoned horsemanship for all levels.  Frank’s background in music production as both a writer and engineer are a perfect compliment to CeCe’s extensive experience as a life-long equestrian and classically trained dancer, choreographer, film producer, and artist.  Together, they wrote Rhythm Riding: A Guide to Riding with Music, distributed by Trafalgar Square Books.
