Public Health in Jamaica 2/13 Webinar: Open for Registration

By: PRLog
PRLog - Feb. 13, 2014 - SALISBURY, N.C. -- The North Carolina Study Abroad/Global Engagement Partnership, a collaborative among that state’s 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities and IES Abroad, leader in international customized programs on February 13 at 4-5 p.m. Eastern Time will be hosting a webinar to discuss the new 2014 Public Health Program in Jamaica.

This program promises to deliver learning experiences that will complement and extend what its participants learn in their classrooms. This four-week, five credit course is for students enrolled in public health, social work, sports medicine; food and nutrition and nursing programs. Detailed information on content and learning objectives will be answered during the webinar by Gretchen Cook-Anderson: Director of Diversity Recruiting and Advising, Earl M. Brown: Coordinator of the NC SAGE Partnership and Steven W. Jones: President/CEO IERC Education Foundation.

Public health is an increasingly global field and highly competitive. Also more students want and need the experience of travel abroad, but can’t justify the expense and time away from their concentration. "Well there are ways to pay for it and our goal is for the course’s content to make these future graduates stand-out as they enter the marketplace,” says Steven W. Jones.

On-the-ground recruiting has been the sole task of Earl Brown. Since January, he has visited no fewer than 10 campuses. “It’s not easy, but for a pilot like this one you have to sit down with students and faculty first. That’s the way it is. For African American students attending an HBCU, this is a golden opportunity. I am a product of an HBCU, Morgan State University, and have been around the world to no fewer that 35 nations. Today for these young people it’s more important than ever. Success requires integrating course work and career studies into a global landscape; also this is a good day for a webinar," he added.
