Cerebral Palsy Foundation Announces 4th Annual Design for Disability Gala Introducing New Line of Accessible Accessories

Achievement Awards Presented to Honorees During Evening of Celebration, Innovation and Inclusion

NEW YORK - Oct. 23, 2019 - PRLog -- The Cerebral Palsy Foundation (CPF) will hold their Annual Design for Disability Gala in New York City on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the stunning West Edge, overlooking the Hudson River.

One of the highlights of the evening will be the introduction of a "first-of-its-kind" line of accessible accessories developed in partnership with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) Master of Fine Arts program in Fashion Design, and Barbara Bradley Baekgaard.

Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Vera Bradley said, "The creative partnership between FIT, Baekgaard USA, Vera Bradley and the Cerebral Palsy Foundation has been an exciting collaboration incorporating feedback from many types of users to create thoughtfully designed bags, wallets, ponchos and other items that are as easy to use as they are beautiful. I am thrilled to see our ideas come to life."

"We are thrilled to be a part of this project. Design solutions and problem-solving lives at the very heart of what we do. It's possible to change the world with fashion, and this project gave us the opportunity to do so," explained Jonathan KYLE Farmer, Professor, Chair, and Creator of the MFA Fashion Design program within the School of Graduate Studies at FIT NYC.

To mark this year's 2019 Gala, the Cerebral Palsy Foundation will also present three awards during the evening honoring innovators in the areas of industry, medical institutions and clinicians.  The honorees for 2019 are as follows: the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center at Columbia University for their commitment to lifespan care, Chubb Insurance for their Accessibility is Beautiful Initiative, and neonatologist Dr. Nathalie Maitre, of Nationwide Children's Hospital for her vision and leadership in early detection and diagnosis of cerebral palsy in high risk infants.

The "master of ceremonies" for the evening will be sportscaster, Jason Benetti, who is also an ambassador for the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.

"As a leader in the disability field, CPF is committed to improving lives every day and honoring those who are making a difference," said CPF Executive Director, Rachel Byrne. "Our annual Gala is one of the ways we can show the world how beautiful and empowering innovation can truly be."
