Abbotsford, BC - TheNewswire - February 18, 2020 - Gatekeeper Systems Inc. ('Gatekeeper' or the 'Company') (TSXV:GSI) (OTC:GKPRF) (FSE:1GK) a leading provider of video surveillance systems developed to protect people while in transit, applauds the Task Force recommendations to use camera technologies to make school buses even safer.

On February 14, 2020, the Council of Ministers Responsible for Transportation and Highway Safety released the Strengthening School Bus Safety in Canada report from the federal, provincial and territorial Task Force on School Bus Safety, which developed a set of prioritized recommendations for the Council of Ministers to consider. Recognizing that 79% of school aged fatalities involving a school bus occur outside the bus, in or near school bus loading zones, the Task Force recommends that all jurisdictions explore the application of safety measures which include:

  1. 1. Infraction Cameras, to help prevent dangerous incidents caused by passing motorists,

  2. 2. Exterior 360 Cameras, as a means of better detecting and protecting children and other vulnerable road users around the exterior of the bus.

The report estimates that 2.2 million Canadian school children travel to and from school every day on Canada's 51,670 school buses.

Gatekeeper's Stop Arm Camera (Infraction Camera) solution is specifically designed to record and target vehicles that illegally pass a school bus when the stop arm is deployed. The Company's new SP-25 high-speed Stop Arm Camera can capture license plate information day or night, up to 4 lanes from a school bus. Gatekeeper's video analytics and proprietary software automates the ticketing process of school bus stop-arm infractions.

Gatekeeper's 360 Camera solution is a quad-camera system which provides the driver with 360 real-time imaging that is automatically activated at pre-programmed bus speeds. The 360 imaging system is elegantly displayed within the vehicle's specialized rear-view mirror system, allowing drivers to monitor schoolchildren all around the bus.

Gatekeeper has significant experience in supplying cameras for school bus safety. During its operating history the Company has sold over 100,000 cameras that are being used to help protect children while riding to and from school.

Doug Dyment, President and CEO commented, "For over 25 years I've worked within this industry using video cameras to improve the safety of schoolchildren on buses, and during that time I've witnessed significant technology evolution. Gatekeeper's goal is to actively advance innovative safety solutions for school buses and we are now developing new artificial intelligence (AI) based solutions designed to take school bus safety to the next level."

On June 4, 2019, the Ontario government also passed the Getting Ontario Moving Act which includes provisions to protect school children by giving municipalities the tools they need to target drivers who threaten the safety of children crossing roads to their school or home.
