Private Hotel Beaches in Abu Dhabi

On Sunday, May 31st, the Supreme Council for National Security and the Abu Dhabi Department of Health declared that beaches could open at hotels in the area on June 1st. Regulations were issued and all hotels must follow them in order to stay open legally.

These regulations stated that private hotel beaches could open at forty percent capacity. Hotels had to apply for government approval before reopening.

The first hotels to open their beaches in Abu Dhabi were on Saadiyat Island and they opened on June 6th, and others along Corniche Road soon followed. As time has gone on, more and more hotels have received approval to open their beaches.

At all hotels beaches, social distancing measures are in place and staff are working hard to ensure clean areas with great attention to hygiene.

In almost all cases, these hotel beaches are only open to hotel guests and beach club members. However, a few are welcoming day guests as well. Call ahead to find out more.

Some hotels require timed visits with time limits to give everyone who wants to enjoy the beach a chance to do so. Also, many hotels require guests to bring their own towels down from their rooms instead of using provided communal beach towels.

Public Abu Dhabi Beaches

About a month later, on July 3rd, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) announced the re-opening of some public beaches as well. Hudayriat Beach and Corniche Beach are both currently open.

As with the hotel beaches, a maximum of forty percent occupancy is allowed on these beaches at any time.

The DMT has spent a great deal of time sterilizing the beaches and related facilities and has created a plan to ensure the overall safety of beach users. Beach visitors must adhere to and comply with all of their regulations; people who do not will be asked to leave and also may be fined.

In order to visit Abu Dhabi’s public beaches, interested parties must pre-book a time using the SmartPass government platform. This is also required for entry into any of Abu Dhabi’s public parks.

Visitors will also have to confirm that they have tested negative for any current health concerns and will need to have their body temperature checked using a thermal camera before they can go on the beach.

Groups visiting the beach can consist of no more than five persons. Social distancing from other groups is required and areas will be marked out on the beach to help maintain the proper distance of 2.5 meters between groups.

Showers will not be available and people visiting the beach must wear masks and gloves.
