Systemax Reports Record Third Quarter 2020 Financial Results

Sales of $285.7 Million Increase 17%; EPS of $0.64 Up 78%

The third quarters of both 2020 and 2019 included 13 weeks and the first nine months of both 2020 and 2019 included 39 weeks.

Third Quarter 2020 Financial Summary:

  • Consolidated sales increased 17.1% to $285.7 million in U.S. dollars and average daily sales increased 17.1% compared to prior year.
  • On a Non-GAAP, average daily sales, constant currency basis, sales increased 17.2% compared to prior year.
  • Consolidated operating income grew 69.7% to $31.4 million compared to $18.5 million last year.
  • Net income per diluted share from continuing operations increased 77.8% to $0.64.

Nine Months 2020 Financial Summary:

  • Consolidated sales increased 4.2% to $755.1 million in U.S. dollars and average daily sales increased 4.2% compared to prior year.
  • On a Non-GAAP, average daily sales, constant currency basis, sales increased 4.3% compared to prior year.
  • Consolidated operating income increased 21.9% to $63.0 million compared to $51.7 million last year.
  • Net income per diluted share from continuing operations increased 23.5% to $1.26.

Barry Litwin, Chief Executive Officer, said, "We had an exceptional third quarter performance, achieving an all time high in quarterly operating profit and operating margin. Revenue increased 17%, as we benefited from our private label offering, an expanded pandemic product line, and solid gains from core product categories. Sales growth was fairly stable as we moved through the quarter, and has remained in the mid-teens in October. We delivered record profitability as both gross and operating margins expanded, with operating income improving 70% to more than $31 million."

At September 30, 2020, the Company had total working capital of $141.8 million, cash and cash equivalents of $78.4 million and excess availability under its credit facility of approximately $71.4 million. Operating cash flow provided by continuing operations in the quarter was $28.1 million. The Company's Board of Directors has declared a cash dividend of $0.14 per share to common stock shareholders of record at the close of business on November 9, 2020, payable on November 16, 2020. The Company anticipates continuing a regular quarterly dividend in the future. The Company repurchased approximately 109,000 shares of stock at an average price of $21.78 in the quarter. As of September 30, 2020, the Company had approximately 1.4 million shares remaining under its current repurchase authorization.
