ConnecTour Reaches Thunder Bay: Mid-way in Cross-Canada cycle Tour

Community building project helping Canadians to reconnect, rebuild

Thunder Bay, ON – Aug 3 2021 - TheNewswire - A group of adventure bicyclists has reached Thunder Bay, half-way through their cross-Canada odyssey to reconnect, restore and rebuild communities as the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The group has been joined by bicycle adventurers for portions of the journey, which began May 28 in Kelowna, British Columbia. In total, the trip is covering 8,000 kilometres over four months. Guest riders are invited to join for a day, week or a full stage of the tour.

Group leader Rick McFerrin said the group continues to follow clearly defined health protocols during the pandemic. All members of the core team have been double-vaccinated. Detail on measures the group is taking can be found on the ConnecTour website.

The core group expect to reach St. John’s, NL, by early October. Picking up co-tourers along the way, the group is avoiding major highways when possible, and taking secondary roads to learn more about this country’s rich mosaic.

The full route can be seen here.

Seasoned journalists Doug Firby and Lisa Monforton are the chief storytellers, highlighting remarkable local people in a series of blogs, and with photographs and video. The project aims to fuel a national conversation on who we are and to celebrate the ordinary heroes who make us unique.

“We have met so many extraordinary people,” said Firby. “We feel that we have reached right into the heartland of the country.”

The group is inviting both corporate and individual sponsorship. Corporations interested in supporting this cause, are invited to contact us at info@connectour.ca. Individuals who wish to offer financial support are invited to visit our Patreon page here.

Further information about the tour, and registration options, are available on the ConnecTour website. You can also follow profiles of remarkable people on the website here.
