New service offered by Australian outsourcing firm BOSS Pty Ltd means accounting firms can now take on outsourced staff without losing any of the full-time benefits.

It makes sense for business owners to hire accountants – they themselves are not accountants, and even if they choose the DIY route they’re losing a considerable amount of time to balancing the books and doing their taxes. That’s time that would be better spent cycled into building the business itself – marketing, client relations, product or service testing, and so on. Hiring outsourced accounting staff makes this option viable, even for small businesses.
Even so, pricing can be intimidating – it’s not easy for a small business to hire on someone if they don’t have enough work for them to justify the cost. It’s a rock and a hard place situation – lose time doing the books yourself or lose money paying someone for time where they’re not actively improving your business.
Local outsourcing provider BOSS (Back Office Shared Services) has come up with a solution. They have recently announced the option of hiring cloud-based virtual accountants on a part-time basis.
Lee Court, BOSS’ Client Relationship and Marketing Manager, explains: “Other outsource accounting providers may be reluctant to offer workers for part-time work because all of their training and overhead costs come out of the provider’s end. They’re looking to recoup these costs, and the best way to do that is to ensure they’re fully employed. Happily however, BOSS has had some very good years recently and that has put us into the position where we’re able to give back to local businesses by setting up part-time jobs.”
Business-owners can hire virtual accountants for anything from one to five days a week. The overseas team member(s) integrate into the business’ workflow, and business owners can converse with their virtual accountant with Skype.
To help businesses that are new to outsource accounting, BOSS offers six months of free quality-control reviews on the work done on behalf of the client. This period both reduces the cost for the business and helps them get their virtual accountant up and running on their preferred workflow system.
During this initial period files are usually turned around in two to three weeks. Once the workflow is firmly established, the turnaround is reduced to just 24 hours. Clients are always able to check the progress on their files via BOSS’ Work Flow Max program, a cloud-based application.
All of BOSS’ outsource accounting team members are given a one-month induction process, followed with a six-month period of on-the-job training. After that, they attend monthly tax-training sessions. The accountants are fully certified for Australian and NZ bookkeeping and tax regulations, and can handle all related accounting tasks including SMSF work.
